Carbon Social Cycle Club - Tour de Bathgate Alps - 16/09/2017

Thanks to all who came along to the 3^rd and final Carbon Social Cycle Club event of the year.

It was a chilly start rolling out from Linlithgow train station but we soon warmed up on the 8 mile gradual climb to the first highlight of the day – a visit to California! Well, maybe not as glamorous as the US version, but we did enjoy a quick stop before a couple of miles cruising downhill.

The next 10 miles or so was ‘rolling’, so we were glad to stop at the ‘Cup Cake Café’ near Torphiccen to refuel on coffee and various cakes and scones.

Happily fuelled up (and with unfortunately full stomachs!) we then immediately climbed up our first ‘Alp’ of the day on route to Beecraigs Country Park. The rest of the route meandered around some fine West Lothian countryside taking in a selection of short and sharp climbs before a final big climb up Kingscavill Hill (just what we needed at mile 44!). From here it was an easy roll back down to Linlithgow and a welcome pint of shandy at the Star and Garter.
