“Carbon Friday” in the spotlight

It wasn't just our DP World Tour ambassador’s golf that caught the eye of the media during the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Reporters were intrigued by Richie Ramsay’s customary black and orange attire after “one of the best rounds of his life” halfway through the Rolex Series tournament captured by Ryder Cup vice-captain Alex Noren.

Before going on to dissect his morning’s work by the media, Richie was invited to explain the background to “Carbon Friday.”

With sports marketing forming part of his college studies in Scotland and the USA, the Aberdonian seized upon the idea of wearing the company’s corporate colours every Friday on his busy Tour schedule.

“When you go into the Carbon offices you can see that black and orange is very much a thing,” explained Richie, who has also been sporting a Carbon logoed cap this season.

“Even the sweets on the table are black and orange. So I suggested, why don't I wear black and orange every Friday?

“Even some of the players have been saying ‘Oh, it’s Carbon Friday.’ It's catching.”

Richie said the Carbon team, led by managing director Gordon Wilson, have been providing great support, taking care of his finances and allowing him to focus on golf and his family.

“They help plan for things I want to do in the future as well. I wouldn't say they are a sponsor, they are more like a partner for me,” he observed.

MD Gordon was delighted with the coverage the company received on television, online and in the Press.

“I’m glad Richie feels the Carbon team are partners rather than sponsors,” he said.

“We take pride in enjoying close relationships with all our clients, helping them plan ahead, whether that is for retirement bucket lists, special milestones in their lives or the next stage of their careers.”
