Another day to remember at Blairgowrie

The Blairgowrie Golf Club has hosted a charity fundraiser in memory of legendary rugby commentator Bill McLaren for the last 15 years.

The team at Carbon Financial was proud to support the latest event, which featured rugby insights from former Scotland and British and Irish Lions captain Gavin Hastings and generated nearly £10,000.

The Bill McLaren Foundation’s fundraising is closing in on the £2 million mark.

Trustee Linda Lawson – Bill's daughter – welcomed the long-time support of our managing director Gordon Wilson and managing secretary Stuart Wilson’s team at Blairgowrie.

“Gordon’s support over many years has been invaluable, and the Foundation is very grateful for it,” she said.

Linda and her husband and Foundation CEO Alan, a former Scotland international, said Bill had always harbored fond memories of the Perthshire club, having edged fellow commentator Peter Alliss in the televised “A Round with Alliss” nearly 50 years ago.

The Foundation, which promotes values associated with “The Voice of Rugby,” enjoys sterling support from rugby players of all vintages and several, including Grand Slam try scoring legend Tony Stanger and Duncan Hodge, took part in the latest fundraiser.

Linda stressed it wasn't just rugby projects and promising youngsters that the Foundation supported. Gymnastics, netball, football, rowing, football and talented kids from other sports have all benefited from sponsorship and support.

Gordon Wilson said: “Carbon is proud to have supported the work of the Bill McLaren Foundation over many years and it has been amazing to see how it has grown and grown, helping hundreds of great causes and assisting talented youngsters as they chase their dreams.

“It was another great day at The Blairgowrie Golf Club and congratulations to all those who left with prizes to show for their efforts."
