Gordon Wilson - Managing Director

Gordon Wilson - Managing Director

Qualifications:

Chartered Financial Planner and Certified Financial Planner.

Specialism:

Advising business owners. Being a business owner and having bought and sold businesses, Gordon has personal experience of the challenges that businesses face.

Why my job's important:

“Money is a worry for most people; too much, too little or not knowing whether it’s too much or too little. We can help make sense of a situation and let our clients get on with their lives in the knowledge that the money side, at least, is in good hands.”

Career history:

Gordon served his apprenticeship in financial services as a graduate trainee with Standard Life. After ten years of learning the trade with Yorkshire Building Society, Frizzell, and Aitchison & Colegrave, he went into business on his own. In 2011, he co-founded Carbon Financial Partners with trusted, experienced colleagues that he has known and worked with for many years.

Top financial planning tip:

“There are two types of economist: those who don’t know and those who don’t know they don’t know. Don’t waste time crystal ball gazing and trying to second guess where the world is going to be next week, next year or in ten years’ time. This isn’t possible in any walk of life. Instead, concentrate on what you do know and put a robust, all-weather financial plan in place.”

Favourite book:

“Good to Great” by Jim Collins

Did you know?

Gordon finished in 107th (and last) place in the inaugural ‘Heaven and Hell’ Scone half marathon. A friend’s daughter asked at the finish line: ‘Did you plant a flower and watch it grow?’
